Track 32: Docket - Blondshell (with Bully)
When I'm not full I fill the space with Barbasol...
Buddies and touring mates Blondshell (Sabrina Mae Teitelbaum) and Bully (Alicia Bognanno) are a dream combination for several reasons. They both love 90s indebted guitar rock, songs about how they kinda suck sometimes. and they’re both headliners of B-named bands that are really just solo projects.
Docket is a one-off single that feels more like a Bondhsell song lyrically with a Bully-like sound, which means that despite their similarities, both artists are pretty idiosyncratic. No matter what, though, the song, about a touring musician questioning whether or not to cheat on the fella she has at home hits hard, with a great bridge that feels revealing, conflicted, and genuinely honest.
When both singers shout out “I don’t want what I need,” it feels earned. This happens to be one of my most played songs this year. For some reason I keep coming back. Here’s to future collaborations, even if they’re just more tours! These two go together like PB and J.
